The Libertine Thing

A libertine is a free thinker, one who is free from moral restraint.

Conveniently, in Europe and South America, the word libertine is specifically used to mean [one who participates in extra - marital activities], and [adult] clubs there are sometimes referred to as “libertine clubs.”

I am a free thinker and thoroughly free from moral restraint. I don’t do anything because I have to; it’s as though I just never got that chip installed. My kneejerk response to “why” is always “why not?” I don’t understand the inclination of Western culture to restrict all, and only permit that which is approved by the majority. We really should permit all, and only restrict that which is approved by the majority.

Sometimes I worry about appearances, but it’s not about needing others to view me personally as chaste or proper. Jack and I have chosen a social circle and professions that require us to maintain a certain level of propriety. In order to honor my commitment to our household, I have to keep up appearances.

Occasionally, being a full-time libertine on the inside, and a dignified matron on the outside, can be exasperating.

Occasional exasperation beats constant repression and misery any day.
